The Apex Team
We are a team of scientists working on real bugs in the Silicon Valley, where most people work on computer bugs. We have diverse expertise in insect behavior, insect physiology, chemical ecology, microbiology, and molecular biology.

Jose Pietri, PhD
Jose Pietri earned his BS degree in cell biology and PhD in microbiology from the University of California, Davis where he studied mosquito responses to malaria parasite infection. He then went on to complete postdoctoral training at the University of California, Santa Cruz investigating the cellular interactions between the symbiotic bacterium Wolbachia and its insect hosts, before joining the Apex team. He has published numerous peer-reviewed articles in the fields of host-microbe interactions and medical entomology and has received several prestigious awards from the University of California, NSF, NIH, and Helen Hay Whitney Foundation.
